Ugly Love is one of Colleen Hoover’s most noteworthy releases. This story follows Tate, a woman who falls for a distraught and reticent man named Miles. When these two souls meet, their connection is undeniable. However, Miles is a broken man and he cannot offer Tate anything other than a physical relationship. Emotionally, Miles is distant and he makes it clear that he does not want to discuss his future plans with anyone. Miles is reeling from his past, a story that he wants to keep hidden from Tate. As Tate and Miles draw closer, their emotions run wild. Can they both stick to the rules and keep things casual?

One of my book based highlights this year has been discovering Colleen Hoover’s writing. I have now read five books by this bestselling author. I didn’t quite believe all the hype when I first started seeing so many Colleen Hoover books on my Instagram account feed. However, I’m now a CoHo convert thanks to Ugly Love and the other backlist titles I have read by this global phenomenon.

Ugly Love is a book that does contain some heavy themes and triggers, so I do issue a caution warning to potential readers. The content was covered sensitively in my eyes and although it was upsetting to read, I was able to push past this and value the true story behind this title. Hoover handles the progression of this story and the linked love situation well, which is thanks to her very clear writing direction and engaging cast. I appreciated the alternating form of narration and I really clicked with the past narrative involving the male lead, Miles. I could see that Hoover was building to a crushing crescendo involving the reason why Miles is such a damaged man. When the big reveal finally arrived I felt winded. What a shocking turn of events! The high emotion of this tale, which is almost like a rollercoaster at times, is offset by some raunchy moments between Tate and Miles. Ugly Love is definitely a heavy one in terms of the sizzle content!

Overall, I couldn’t seem to take my eyes off this one. Ugly Love is definitely worthy of all the attention it has been receiving!
